Hello.
I can understand how one reading what I have written in my other sections could lead you to think
that I am marvellously deluded and pretentious. Though this of course cannot be entirely ruled out I do believe that there
is a lot of meaning in my work.
Quite simply I aim to reveal beauty. The process starts when I stroll through environments (usually
natural ones) and suddenly something, some view, some perspective, some thing, will strike me as being something exceptional
and I try to capture that with the camera. The thing is, when I see the image in my mind for that brief second what I really
see is not the image I am literally seeing but a flash of pure imagination. Derived from what I am seeing, it is this imagined
moment I am portraying. I'm not photographing a sunset but a sky scorched by the passion of the gods. It's not just a tree
it's a metaphor of wisdom and tranquility.
I am not using my camera to capture the image that is literally there. Instead I am trying to
recreate the experience that brief vision delivered to me and I am using the digital image as my medium to do this. This is
why I use Photoshop to manipulate my images; not for the sake of making them look pretty but because I need to manipulate
the image to represent what I felt at the time I took the photograph.
What are these experiences I am talking about? I am not so sure myself, perhaps an overactive
imagination or a brief glimpse of the sublime or maybe something else entirely. Whatever it is the images certainly make me
feel a range of emotions, I hope they do the same for you
Why do all these photos and stuff?
I enjoy it, the thrill and challenge of capturing 'something' and presenting it in the best way I can for a viewer so that
people can enjoy the beauty I try to reveal. I find that really rewarding! I took all of these pictures or arranged for the
photo to be shot and asked someone to push the button.
Why is it called LiquidSunlight? Well, there are 2 reasons;
1) The clever reason: Sunlight reveals the world to us and to me it represents how the the interaction of matter crucially
affects not only life, but how life is lived. The garguantuan nuclear fireball 149,600,000 km away (otherwise known as the
Sun) sustains all life on this planet through the process of fusion. I find it fascinating how the physical word can influence
and enchant us.
However, the world is not just made up of inaminate matter, it is also full of life. All life requires water in a liquid state
to exist, without it life cannot survive. Hence by using the word liquid I have tried to represent the organic side of our
world.
For me LiquidSunlight represents these two worlds, between the physical and the organic, between life and the lifeless.
2)The other reason: I think it sounds cool.
Why does this site look so grey? The essence of this website are the photos. Therefore,
I wanted my design to enhance them. By chosing a neutral, subdued theme I wanted the photos to really stand out, making them
more effective.
How are these images made? I use a Konika Minolta X50, Adobe Photoshop, a bit of skill
and a sprinkling of chance.
